Calling it marketing is a Reach...
Seriously, I remember the marketing for Halo 3 being the most amazing blitz of media ever created for a video game. So when a friend reminded me that Halo Reach, the last frickin Halo game, was going to be out in a month I was shocked. The only bit of advertising I have seen is a lame commercial that looks like a fan made Youtube video who slapped snippets of footage with an mp3 of the Halo 3 soundtrack.

It doesn't need marketing, the fans produce enough advertisement by word of mouth, which of course is the best form of advertising there is.
